Nutgrass (Cyperus rotundus) is a highly variable perennial sedge. Identification. Although not a grass species, the name 'nutgrass' is commonly used for this plant in Australia. It is also sometimes called 'nutsedge'. It usually grows to between 20 and 50cm tall, and occasionally taller under favourable conditions. Nutgrass is cooling in nature, its anti-inflammatory property helps soothe redness, breakouts, and inflamed skin. It has proven to treat severe skin conditions. It is rich in fatty acids, vitamins and flavonoids which are extremely beneficial for the skin as well as hair.
